Between $500 and $1,000, the sleeper with the widest bed is IKEA's SALTSJÖBADEN at $899, which opens to 63 3/8 by 78 inches on a pocket-spring unit. For a deeper everyday seat, IKEA's GRUNNARP at $999 has a 34 1/4 inch seat over a 55 7/8 by 78 3/4 inch bed. At $599, IKEA's ÄLVDALEN with chaise opens to 53 1/8 by 77 1/8 inches, and it is the one sleeper here that lists how deep it gets with the bed out. If you want a separate mattress on a pull-out frame, the Latitude Run 74-inch loveseat sleeper on Wayfair is $649.99 with a 2.4-inch memory foam mattress. All prices were read on the retailer's own site in September 2026.

Key Takeaways
Compare beds in inches
A standard full is 54 by 75 inches and a queen is 60 by 80. SALTSJÖBADEN's 63 3/8 inch width is wider than a queen, and its 78 inch length is 2 inches shorter.
Know what the guest lies on
On GRUNNARP and LINDÅKRA the sofa's own foam and cushions become the bed. The Latitude Run carries a separate 2.4-inch memory foam mattress.
Read the seat as closely as the bed
Seat depths in this band run from 19 1/4 inches on ÄLVDALEN to 34 1/4 inches on GRUNNARP, and you sit on that number every day.
Ask for the open depth
ÄLVDALEN lists 53 1/8 inches folded out. For every other sleeper here, ask the seller or measure the bed length out from the wall.
Returns differ by retailer
IKEA takes opened products back within 180 days and unopened ones within 365. Wayfair lists 30 days for most items on the Latitude Run.
How these were judged
Each sleeper had to be priced between $500 and $1,000 on the retailer's own site in September 2026. From there, the order of questions follows how the piece gets used. First, how big is the bed, in inches, as the maker lists it, and how does that compare with a standard full (54 by 75 inches) or queen (60 by 80 inches)? Second, what does the sleeper actually lie on: the sofa's seat cushions, a sprung unit, or a separate mattress? Third, the seat depth and seat height you live with the rest of the year. After that come the boxes, the return window and the warranty.
Where a maker gives only a size word, such as full or double, ask the seller for the width and length in inches before comparing it with anything else.

Best wide bed for two: IKEA SALTSJÖBADEN Sleeper Sofa, Vittangi light beige/white
SALTSJÖBADEN opens to the widest bed in this price band, 63 3/8 by 78 inches, and it was $899 on ikea.com as of September 2026. That is 3 3/8 inches wider than a standard 60 by 80 inch queen and 2 inches shorter, so two adults get more than queen width, on a bed a little shorter than a queen.
The bed is a pocket spring unit with polyurethane foam, and IKEA describes the mechanism as one that "folds out forward." That makes it a different kind of bed from the foam seats that become the bed on GRUNNARP and FRIHETEN. IKEA does not list the thickness of that sleeping layer, so ask before ordering if thickness matters to your sleeper.
As a sofa, IKEA lists an 18 1/8 inch seat height and an overall depth of 41 3/8 inches closed. The seat depth and back height are not on the listing. If you sit upright to read or lounge sideways, those two numbers decide whether the sofa suits you, so ask IKEA for them or sit on one in a store. The listing also shows no package weights. It comes with IKEA's 10-year limited warranty and needs assembly. See the SALTSJÖBADEN listing for the full parts breakdown.
Choose it if two people will share the bed. Skip it if you need the seat numbers in writing before you buy.
Best deep seat for everyday sitting: IKEA GRUNNARP Sleeper Sofa, Gunnared beige
GRUNNARP is the sofa here that is built more for lounging than for sitting upright. IKEA lists a 34 1/4 inch seat depth, an 18 1/8 inch seat height and a backrest height of 13 3/8 inches, and it was $999 on ikea.com as of September 2026, at the top of this band. The bed opens to 55 7/8 by 78 3/4 inches, which is 1 7/8 inches wider and 3 3/4 inches longer than a standard full.
That seat depth is the first number I would check. I have had back pain since I was 18, and on a seat that deep, the gap between the front edge and the backrest decides whether your lower back is supported or left hanging. Measure the seat depth on a sofa you already find comfortable, front of the cushion to the backrest, and hold it against 34 1/4 inches. If yours is much shallower, plan on firm back pillows or look at the next pick.
To open it, IKEA's instructions are to "lift out the underframe and fold down the backrest." The seats and backrest are polyurethane foam over a steel zig-zag spring, and the bed mechanism, stabilizer and hinge are steel. The foam of the sofa becomes the bed; there is no separate mattress, and IKEA does not list how thick the sleeping surface is. One owner on the GRUNNARP listing bought it for a home office that would also serve as a guest room, which is the job it is shaped for.
It arrives in two packages weighing 107 pounds 6 ounces and 81 pounds 13 ounces, so plan on two people for the stairs. The warranty is IKEA's 10-year limited warranty.
Best price for a near-full bed with a chaise: IKEA ÄLVDALEN 3-Seat Sleeper Sofa with Chaise, Knisa dark gray
At $599 on ikea.com as of September 2026, the ÄLVDALEN with chaise is the lowest-priced sleeper in this band with a bed close to full size. It opens to 53 1/8 by 77 1/8 inches: 7/8 inch narrower than a standard full and 2 1/8 inches longer.
It is also the only sleeper here where the listing gives the total depth folded out, 53 1/8 inches. That is the number you need to mark on your floor with tape before ordering, because it tells you how much of the room the open bed takes from the wall. For the other picks, the way to measure your floor for an open sofa bed works from the bed length instead.
As a sofa it sits differently from the other picks. The seat depth is 19 1/4 inches on the main seats and 38 5/8 inches on the chaise, the seat height is 16 1/2 inches and the backrest height is 29 1/2 inches. A 19 1/4 inch seat suits sitting upright, and the chaise is the place to stretch out. The cushions are foam over zig-zag springs, on a steel seat rail and mechanism.
One named reviewer at Livingetc reported feeling springs through the fabric on an IKEA ÄLVDALEN. If a guest feels the same, the fixes for a sofa bed you already own cover what can go between the sleeper and the springs. It ships in two packages of 105 pounds 13 ounces and 74 pounds 15 ounces and carries IKEA's 10-year limited warranty.

Best separate mattress in a narrow footprint: Latitude Run 74-Inch Linen Loveseat Sleeper with Memory Foam Mattress, beige
This is the only sleeper in the group with its own mattress: a folding 2.4-inch memory foam mattress on a solid wood and steel pull-out frame. Wayfair's listing describes it as transitioning "from a structured living room seat into a platform bed," and it was $649.99 on wayfair.com as of September 2026, with free delivery shown.
Closed, it is 74 inches wide, 29 inches deep and 30 inches high. That 29 inch depth compares with 41 3/8 inches for SALTSJÖBADEN, so it suits a den or a home office where the walkway is tight, and Wayfair itself names apartments, home offices and dens. The seat depth is 20 inches and the seat height is 18 inches. It also lists a 600-pound weight capacity, the only capacity figure published for any of the sleepers here, though Wayfair gives one figure and does not split it between sitting and sleeping.
The bed is sold as full/double, and that is a size word. Wayfair does not list the sleeping surface in inches; the 74-inch figure is the sofa's width. Before ordering, ask the seller for the mattress width and length, and hold them against 54 by 75 inches. Ask, too, whether there is a bar or crossbeam under the mattress, because named posters on a The Bump forum thread describe feeling a metal bar through a pull-out mattress, and 2.4 inches is not much between a sleeper and a bar.
It weighs 130 pounds, arrives partially assembled and needs assembly. Wayfair lists a 30-day return policy for most items, counted from delivery, for a refund or store credit. No warranty appears on the listing; a paid five-year protection plan is offered separately. Details are on the Latitude Run listing.
Other sleepers in the $500 to $1,000 band
IKEA's FRIHETEN sleeper sofa, $899 on ikea.com as of September 2026, ties with SALTSJÖBADEN as the lowest-priced sleeper here whose bed is at least a full in both directions, at 56 3/4 by 78 3/8 inches, with a 24 inch seat depth and an 18 1/8 inch seat height. Two owners on the FRIHETEN listing are worth reading before you buy: Brian found the bed much harder than the showroom model because the lower section is fabric over a thin layer of padding on a board, and Blake reported the seating sagging within a year. Its sectional version with a storage chaise, $999, opens to 55 1/8 by 80 3/8 inches and is 59 1/2 inches deep closed. Both are covered in full in the sleeper sofas ranked on published bed size.
IKEA's LINDÅKRA, $599, makes a single bed from the seat and its connected pouffe once the back cushions come off. That bed is 31 1/2 by 78 3/4 inches, which is 6 1/2 inches narrower than a standard twin. As a sofa it has a 23 5/8 inch seat depth, a 16 7/8 inch seat height and a 26 3/8 inch backrest. On the LINDÅKRA listing, a reviewer named Ismael wrote "Do not buy if you're gonna sleep on it," and another found it very firm and said an arm broke easily. It suits a sofa that will sleep one short-stay guest at most.
IKEA's KIVIK one-seat sleeper, also $599, turns its seat and back cushions (pocket springs, high-resilience foam and polyester fiber) into a bed on layer-glued wood veneer slats, but the listing does not give the bed size or the seat numbers. Two owners on the KIVIK listing reported problems: Ted found the middle section was only a frame with no cushion, and Nancy found the frame hard to pull out and push back. Ask IKEA for the bed dimensions before buying one.
Monvane has no sleeper priced in this band. Its Boneless Sleeper Sofa was $319.99 on sale on Monvane's site as of September 2026, and it sits with the sofa beds under $500.

How to tell what kind of sleeper a listing is
The product photos rarely make it plain, but the wording on the listing usually does. When the instructions say to remove the back cushions and pull out an underframe, as FRIHETEN's do, or to lift out the underframe and fold down the backrest, as GRUNNARP's do, the sofa's own foam becomes the bed. When the listing says the seat and back cushions create the bed, as KIVIK's does, the cushions are the mattress. Where a listing names "a folding memory foam mattress," as the Latitude Run's does, there is a separate mattress on a frame, and that is the type where people report feeling a bar underneath.
With a cushion bed, the guest sleeps on the same foam you sit on, so the bed is only as thick and as even as the seat. With a separate mattress, the bed depends on the mattress thickness and on what the mattress rests on. Of the sleepers here, only the Latitude Run lists a mattress thickness, so for the IKEA models ask how thick the cushions that form the bed are. If you are still deciding between a sofa bed and a futon, the difference between the two comes down to whether the seat and the bed are one surface or two.
What to check before you order any of them
Measure the floor with the bed open. Only ÄLVDALEN lists a folded-out depth, so for the others, take the bed length (77 1/8 to 80 3/8 inches across the IKEA sleepers here) and add the space you need to walk past the foot of it. Mark that on the floor with painter's tape, and check that the open bed still leaves a way to the door.
Check the boxes against your stairs and hallway. IKEA lists package weights for GRUNNARP, FRIHETEN, ÄLVDALEN and LINDÅKRA, and every piece here needs assembly. The heaviest box listed is FRIHETEN's at 123 pounds 7 ounces.
Read the return terms before the sleeper is set up. IKEA's policy allows 365 days for unopened products and 180 days for opened products with proof of purchase, and asks you to contact IKEA to arrange a pickup, according to the IKEA return policy. It does not say who pays the pickup freight or whether a slept-on sleeper is treated differently, so ask at the time of purchase and keep the answer in writing. Wayfair's 30 days on the Latitude Run runs from delivery, and the listing does not state return freight or a restocking fee.
Ask what the warranty covers. Each IKEA listing here carries a 10-year limited warranty but does not say whether the sleeper mechanism is covered separately from the frame and fabric. The mechanism is the part that moves every time a guest stays, so that is the question to ask.
Finally, read IKEA's weight figure closely. Several IKEA listings say their seating tests simulate use by persons up to 242 pounds. That describes IKEA's test conditions for sitting, and it is not a published weight capacity for the bed.
Match the sleeper to the job
1. Two adults will share the bed a few times a year. Which figure matters most?
2. A listing calls its bed full/double and gives no inches. What do you do?
3. You sit upright every evening and want your lower back supported. Which pick needs the closest look?
4. Which sleeper lists how far into the room it reaches when open?
Pick an answer to begin.
Frequently asked questions
Is a sleeper sofa under $1,000 big enough for two people?
Some are. IKEA's SALTSJÖBADEN at $899 opens to 63 3/8 by 78 inches, wider than a standard queen, and GRUNNARP and FRIHETEN are both wider than a standard 54-inch full. LINDÅKRA's 31 1/2 inch bed is a single.
Which sleeper under $1,000 has the thickest mattress?
Of the sleepers here, only one lists a mattress thickness: the Latitude Run loveseat on Wayfair, at 2.4 inches of memory foam. The IKEA sleepers use their seat foam, cushions or a pocket-spring unit as the bed and do not list its thickness, so ask IKEA for that figure if it matters to you.
Can I return an IKEA sleeper sofa after it has been opened?
IKEA's return policy allows 180 days for opened products with proof of purchase, against 365 days for unopened ones. The policy page does not say whether a slept-on sleeper or the pickup freight is handled differently, so ask when you buy.
What weight can a sleeper sofa in this price range hold?
The Latitude Run lists 600 pounds, the only capacity figure among these sleepers, and it is one figure for sitting and sleeping together. IKEA's listings describe seating tests that simulate a person up to 242 pounds, which is a test condition rather than a rated capacity.
